Started up my elementaryOS laptop and I see a progress bar.
Is it installing updates? Is it running a disk check? No idea. Just a % to show me its progress towards whatever it is doing.
At 100% it says it finished "installing updates". Oh, okay, good to know that's what it was doing all along. Good to take the guesswork out of these things, you know?
Anyway, then I get to the login screen. I put in my password and hit enter. Now I'm at the desktop. No UI. Just the wallpaper and mouse cursor.

@sebsauvage @impromptux @snax44 Je suis pas sûr, mais si tu es par exemple sur /e/OS ton boot loader est unlock (sur beaucoup de téléphones on ne peut pas le re-lock sans risquer un hardlock, voir bricker) et donc le téléphone est vulnérable 😔 un simple démarrage en fastboot donne accès à tout.

Je ne sais pas sur /e/OS, mais sous Android il y a plusieurs couches de chiffrement, et sans le code même la clé de déchiffrement du système de fichier reste innaccessible, ce qui rend l'extraction extrêmement difficile (même si tu décides de dé-souder la puce de stockage pour la lire sur un autre appareil)

This isn't about protecting children from Facebook. This is about eradicating healthy nonprofit alternatives to Facebook, such as the Fediverse.
If you'll read the vast majority of these laws, you'll find that they impose compliance costs that only Facebook can afford. No way that's an accident.
Protecting children is the excuse. Controlling public discourse using the Facebook algorithm is the goal.

Ces gens veulent notre mort. C'est pas juste qu'ils prennent des mesures qui nous tuent déjà (hôpitaux, retraites, droit du travail...). C'est qu'ils ont le désir de nous tuer, c'est leur projet.
Y'a une pulsion morbide chez les macronistes et leurs alliés d'extrême droite. Ils aiment la mort et en jouissent. C'est pas juste de l'intérêt de classe, ils prennent du plaisir à dominer, humilier et tuer. Faut prendre ça au sérieux. On lutte mal contre eux si on comprend pas ça.

@GeePawHill Work's answer has been... If a client becomes reliant on it, only we can operate it, not the client, because of how unweildy, flakey, and sensitive to change it is.
... That answer hasn't exactly increased adoption.
@urlyman Is there a reason they can’t be moved off the bridge and their flags taken away? Blocking the highway? Risk of falling objects?

@neil @smilingdemon We are getting a skate park and pump track, that was campaigned for and is now being built. It will be a good place for young people, however I don't know if it's going to be free to use.

When I see statements like "teenagers are spending 4-6 hours online, instead of going outside and meeting people" as a justification for further web regulation, I wonder to myself:
- if it had been 4-6 hours reading books, practising musical instruments, creating art, or similar, would they be demanding that books, instruments etc. have a watershed? If not, why not?
- what is the "acceptable" amount of time for a teenager to spend online each day? What makes it so?
- "going outside and meeting people" suggests a particular worldview of what is "good", which will appeal to - indeed, be possible for - some people far more than others. I was never massively sociable, and that's no crime. A day at school, and now work, would involve plenty enough peopling time for me. I am far more sociable online then offline. Where are the local free places where teenagers can get to and hang out, safely, in the warm? (They might exist in some places?)

Estic esperant que el taller m’entregui el cotxe, espero fora a la plaça, mirant coses al mòbil i amb la cartera de la feina al costat meu. Es presenta un policia nacional i em pregunta què estic fent, de què és el correu… Em pren el mòbil per analitzar-lo i agafa la cartera del banc. Miro a la meva parella que estava una mica més enllà i li dic, quan em giro el policia ja no hi és, em quedo sense res, ja no puc pagar al taller!

I sent The Current a polite, detailed email about all the ways that Low Earth Orbit is very poorly regulated, actually (and hopefully sounded less random by adding in the fact that Quirks & Quarks really did interview me about Reflect Orbital last year). Maybe they'll interview me about how terrible everything actually is in orbit. Probably not, but worth a try.
